All public housing site-based waiting lists are currently closed. Public Housing applicants are required to notify MHA of continued interest on a six (6) month basis via the applicant portal (subject to reasonable accommodation for persons with disabilities). Applicants are able to update information through the applicant portal https://myportal.memphisha.org. You must login and ensure your information is up to date. Failure to do so will result in your name being removed from the waiting list to which you have applied. For information regarding your status on the wait list, please contact the site to which you have applied.

Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administers Federal aid to local housing agencies (such as the Memphis Housing Authority) that manages the housing for low-income residents at rents they can afford. HUD furnishes technical and professional assistance in planning, developing and managing these developments.

MHA's ROLE?
MHA is responsible for the management and operation of its local public housing program as follows:

Assures compliance with leases. The lease must be signed by both parties;
Sets charges such as security deposit, excess utility consumption, and damages to unit;
Perform periodic reexaminations of the family's income at least once every 12 months;
Transfers families from one unit to another, in order to correct over/under crowding, repair or renovate a dwelling, or because of a resident's request to be transferred;
Terminates leases when necessary; and
Maintains its developments in a decent, safe, and sanitary condition
