ACT test attempts: How many times can you take it?

Hello everyone! I'm starting to look into the ACT test and wanted to know if there's a maximum number of times you can take the ACT. How many chances do I get to improve my score?

Hello! That's a solid question to ask as you begin preparing for the ACT. The good news is that there is no strict limit on how many times you can take the ACT. In general, students often take the ACT two or three times to achieve their desired score. However, some students may only take it once, while others may take it more than three times to fine-tune their performance.

Keep in mind that, while you can take the ACT as many times as you want, you should also consider the financial cost of the test, as well as the time and effort you'll need to dedicate to preparation. Taking the ACT too many times might not result in significant score improvements if you haven't adequately prepared between attempts, or if you've just hit your ceiling, so you may get to a point where your time and money are better spent enhancing other elements of your college application.

I recommend creating a study plan that focuses on understanding your strengths and weaknesses and investing time in targeted practice for areas you're struggling with. This approach, combined with taking the test a few times, should be more than sufficient to help you reach your desired score - you don't need to take the test tons of times to do well.

Finally, don't forget that you can also choose which test date scores you want to send to colleges, so you can send only your highest scores if you think that will best represent your abilities. Just keep in mind that some colleges do require you to send all your test scores, so research the admissions policies of your target schools to make sure you understand their requirements.

Good luck with your test preparation and future ACT attempts!
